The Himalaya

Sagarmatha National Park and the Mt. Everest region. The entire Jiri – Everest Base Camp trek, shot between March and June 2001. Also, digital video imagery from the Base Camp right up to the summit of Everest, shot during the Indian Army Mount Everest Expedition 2001. Also, side stories and footage such as the last interview with Babu Chhiri Sherpa, the man who climbed Everest 12 times, spent an entire night on the summit, climbed from the Base Camp to the top, and back, in less than 17 hours! Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve and National Park, filmed during May-June 2001, after a gap of nearly twenty years. Rare footage from the inner sanctuary, near Nanda Devi Base Camp, all the way from Lata Kharak and the approach, through Dharanshi, Dibrughetta, Deodi, Bhujgara, Patalkhan and Sarsarpatal. Tracks the route and includes shots of locations where a secret team of the CIA and Indian army jointly placed a nuclear-powered tracking device to monitor activity at China’s Lop Nor nuclear facility. The device subsequently disappeared and has not been traced to date. (Format Digital Betacam, 12 hours.)

Kullu Dussehra, an annual Hindu festival from the middle Himalaya, Himachal Pradesh state (Format DVCAM, 8 hours). Also Lakhat village in Uttaranchal, showing the Besi puja festival with people in trances and undergoing tantrik rituals.
